Building the Next-Gen Diligence Engine, Why 8byte is Partnering with Vespa.ai

For me, the goal at 8byte has always been to build platforms that genuinely empower our customers, not just add to their workflow. That’s why I’m incredibly excited to announce our new strategic product and implementation partnership with Vespa.ai.
We’re embedding Vespa Cloud as the core retrieval layer inside our forthcoming diligence engine. This is a big deal because it’s the engine that will help us deliver on our promise: to turn fragmented data into real-time risk scoring and decision-making metrics for private-equity teams.
The Diligence Problem We Kept Running Into
At 8byte, we build AI infrastructure for regulated industries, and over the past year one pain point has stood out. Private-equity analysts still lose weeks to messy data collection, scattered and complex PDFs, and slow keyword search before they can write even a basic risk memo. We wanted to give those teams a workspace that answers plain-language questions in real time, complete with sources and context.
That led us to create our new diligence engine and to partner with Vespa.ai for its retrieval core.
Why This Matters
I’ve seen firsthand how private-equity analysts spend weeks on diligence, gathering documents, scraping data, and stitching together spreadsheets, all before the first investment memo is even drafted. It’s a massive, manual grind that delays every decision.
Our platform is designed to collapse that entire process into about an hour. With a single click, analysts will be able to generate a live risk scorecard and an executive-ready report. This isn’t just about saving time; it’s about shifting the focus from data housekeeping to meaningful insight. After an investment is made, the platform continues to monitor crucial real-time data, keeping teams informed about both the positive and negative factors that could influence their portfolio companies’ financials and future outlook.
And the engine making all of this possible? Vespa’s sub-100 ms vector search, auto-scaling cloud, and GDPR-compliant logging.
What the Partnership Looks Like
Our partnership makes 8byte a Vespa product and implementation partner for the BFSI sector. We’ve already completed our first proof-of-concept demo and we’re on track to start a private beta on September 1, 2025.
The projected metrics for our diligence engine are ambitious:
- Query latency: Our target is under 100 ms per search.
- Infrastructure cost: We project a 50% lower cost than a comparable Elasticsearch setup.
- Analyst throughput forecast to rise by roughly five times
A Sneak Peek: The Analyst’s Workflow
Imagine this: an analyst is tasked with building a risk picture for a potential investment.
- Before the platform: They spend weeks shuffling through PDFs, waiting on slow search tools, and trying to connect data from several disconnected systems. Every decision is delayed by a painful, manual process.
- After the platform: They open a single workspace. The platform instantly provides a risk summary, answers plain-language queries in near real time, and provides all the relevant internal and external sources needed for verification. They can dive straight into analysis, not administration.
